Our Message to Your State Government Leaders
In the midst of this prolonged downturn in the state’s economy, small, independent businesses are struggling.
Reducing the expense side of the company balance sheet is at the top of their priority list as they try to provide their customers and clients with the best products and services at a competitive price. Unfortunately, higher taxes, costly mandates and burdensome regulations add to their cost of doing business in Wisconsin.
Small business owners must account for these added expenses and their options are not without consequence. Charging more for less drives customers and clients away. Absorbing expenses has its limits as well. Laying-off employees leaves small employers unable to service their customers. Reducing wages and benefits results in the loss of valued employees and leave small businesses unable to compete for well-qualified workers.
Reducing the state government costs of doing business in Wisconsin for small, independent businesses is our foremost priority for the 2011-2012 legislative session, however it is not our only priority.
Our members want to do more than just survive, they want their businesses to thrive and prosper. They are a critical part of Wisconsin’s economy. They are job creators in communities throughout this state and have a role to play in the recovery.
WIB looks forward to working with Governor Walker and members of the Wisconsin State Legislature to make Wisconsin “open for business” and help small, independent businesses “lead the recovery.”
